Weather in Action

One reason why I really, really enjoyed this past unit on weather is because it's so darn practical! I mean, we can just gaze out the window and say (like many of y'all have been lately), "Well, the nimbostratus clouds are increasing. That means there's a low pressure area heading in." or maybe, "Geez it's been gross weather for a few days now, some drizzle and overcast skies, that means a warm front is moving through our area." A few days ago we were pumped because with the clear skies and cumulus clouds, we all knew we were experiencing a high pressure area, so we were armed with sunglasses! WELL ladies and gents! LOOK at this incredible picture I JUST took (12/20/12 at 3:26 pm) of a front moving across the eastern United States. Based on the possible tornadoes and lightning and wind, I KNOW it's a cold front. This boundary is SO cool! Enjoy and stay dry :o)  PS: Doesn't science RULE!?!

We Made It!!

Wow!!!!! Can you even believe it's already Christmas break??!?!? That means you've made it through almost half of 5th grade. You guys rock. I truly love all of you so very much and I will MISS you over the next two weeks. Come back refreshed, rejuvenated, and read! Here's my reading list for the break:

1. Finish Forge by Laurie Halse Anderson
2. Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
3. The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart
and hopefully
4. Caleb's Crossing by Geraldine Brooks (that one's more for grown-ups, she's one of my favorite authors)

MERRY CHRISTMAS Y'ALL!!! AND MUCH LOVE TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES!

We Love Our Little Buddies!

Here we are after our awesome party with our little buddies yesterday. Aren't they too cute? And I mean the 5th graders AND the kindergarteners! :o)

Wednesday 12/18

No homework tonight but as always, remember to read for at least 20 minutes! I'm enjoying the sequel to the novel Chains called Forge. It's an account of a young American-American soldier/slave during the Revolutionary War-in Valley Forge, no less! It's riveting and I highly recommend the "series" by Laurie Halse Anderson. You won't regret it!

And of course tomorrow is finally PJ, "Polar Express", and Pizza day! Hooray! Don't forget to wear your pjs and if you'd like to bring a small (clean) pillow/blanket, feel free. It's going to be a blast!
