All About Me

Hi! Welcome to my class, you will love your 5th grade year!

This will be my 6th year teaching and I love this career more now than ever. I was born to be a teacher and I truly have a passion for preparing our future leaders. My favorite thing about teaching is helping the students become interested in a subject that never appealed to them before. The best instance of this is when, on the first day of school, a student says, "I hate reading." And by the second nine weeks, it's a (happy!) struggle to get him to put a book down and participate! If you hate reading, I am the right teacher for you!! :o) Science, math, and social studies are my favorite subjects to teach. I've definitely always been a bit of a "nerd" and I wholeheartedly embrace that!

Outside of the class, I love to spend time with my husband, Mr. Brandon, and our fur baby, Doak. Doak joined our family a couple years ago and is the furriest, happiest, sweetest little "child" I could have imagined! I also love to cook, garden, scuba dive, eat great food, travel, hike, take pictures, and go to the beach to jet-ski, scallop, and watch the sun set. Also, I really love to read. The Kindle is one of the best inventions because it allows you to take as many books as you want, everywhere you go! Ever since I got one, I'm always found with a "book" in hand! My wonderful parents live in Tallahassee, and Brandon and I enjoy spending time with them. They have a puppy too, so Doak has a best friend for life!

As a young child, we moved around a bit but settled in Gainesville for elementary and middle school. We moved to Tallahassee in 1999 and I graduated from Maclay. After that, I went to FSU and earned a Marketing degree. I moved to Tampa to pursue a business career but quickly realized that it was not for me. I searched my heart and realized my strongest passion is learning and my biggest love is children...so I added that up and discovered I needed to become a teacher! I attended USF for two years and earned a MA in Education. I worked at a charter school in Tampa for two years teaching 5th grade. It is a fantastic school and I learned so much from many wonderful teachers and administrators!

We moved back to Tallahassee in 2009 so Mr. Brandon could pursue higher education and I was blessed to get a position at Gilchrist, the best school in town! I love being a Gilchrist Grizzly and adore all this incredible school has to offer. I am eagerly awaiting the start of another amazing year and I know your child (or YOU, if you are my student!!) will have an incredible year. My main goal is to nurture a true passion for learning in your child and I intend to foster an environment of life-long learning. Not only do I strive for my students to be ready for 6th grade, I aspire for them to be prepared for middle school, high school, college, and beyond!
