**Example: Stop 1 - Everglades National Park, Florida; Stop 2 - Coca Cola Factory, Atlanta, GA; Stop 3 - The Biltmore Estate, Asheville NC; Stop 4 - Stones River Battlefield, Murfreesboro, TN; Stop 5 - Natchez, MS See how my stops go in order and don't backtrack? Request from the Spectacular Mrs. McBride!

I am planning an "out of this world" art part of the  book fair. For those new to Gilchrist  next Tuesday evening is a fun filled family time; supper at Gilchrist,  great books to  buy at the book fair and our traditional make and take art fair as well.  Kids ( of all ages) will have an opportunity to make 3 different artworks centered on books with the theme of books are out of this world.

I am looking for several  supplies you  or your classes might have at home
  •  tin cans - 15 oz.  and smaller - soup to tomato paste size   (clean)
  • old  or even unused  Cds
  • odd ball  "robot parts" - small computer parts, sturdy colored wire, game pieces (like scrabble or rummicube tiles)  etc.
  • clear domed plastic  coffee lids ( for all of you frappachino addicts out there!)
  • popsicle sticks
Many thanks for all contributions!
Mrs. McBride

Science in Action

Below are a few shots of our simple but really interesting science investigation we did this week. We got 4 plates and put 1/4 cup of sugar, salt, and sand, on the plates then left one plate empty as the control. The next morning, the ants covered the sugar but none where to be seen on the control plate, salt, or sand! We used our observations and evidence to infer that the ants prefer sugar! We thought we saw lots of dead ants but surprisingly, this afternoon, almost all of the ants were gone! What could we infer now? Do we need more evidence before making an inference? I, for one, do not know why the ants were gone, it's a science mystery just waiting to be solved! What will you investigate this weekend??? I sure do love all my little budding scientists :o)

Look at all those ants on the sugar!

Dr. Watts examining and observing the ants, can't you just see his wheels turning? It was his very scientific idea to document our observations using a camera!!

Homework for Friday 9/2

1. Math lesson 4, ALL. Show your Work! Might need a separate sheet

A Message From Amos

Amos is ready to come meet the class!!! He wants to make sure though, before he comes, that his new friends won't be too loud or off task when they should be working. He wanted me to tell you that he really loves when his friends are focusing, learning, and having fun without getting out of control. He said that in the past, when his friends acted "crazy", it really stressed him out and made him sad. Since the first day of school Amos has wanted to meet his new friends, but I told him that I'd wait and make sure they were the kind of friends he wants to be around 8 hours a day. After 9 days, we are getting really close and just need to work a little more on staying on task during partner and small group work. He'd like to come next week, so please help him by concentrating on your tasks during independent work time. In the meantime, he'll "keep spinning his wheels" and hoping to meet the class soon!!
